1 Rossiya Hotel Soviet Union Moscow 3,200 21 Demolished in 2006 to make room for an entertainment complex. It was the largest hotel in the world from 1967 until 1990 when it was surpassed by the Excalibur in Las Vegas with 4,008 rooms. It remained the largest hotel in Europe until its 2006 closure.
2 Sahara Hotel and Casino United States Las Vegas 1,720 27/24/14 (3 bldgs.) Closed in 2011 for renovations to become SLS Las Vegas.
3 Stardust Resort and Casino United States Las Vegas 1,552 32/9 floors (2 towers) Closed in 2006 and imploded in 2007, became Echelon Place, but in 2008, the construction was suspended due of 2008-2012 recession and currently on hold.
4 Dunes Las Vegas United States Las Vegas 1,300 24/17 floors (2 towers) Closed and imploded in 1993. Replaced by Bellagio.
