The Monarchy of Liechtenstein (also referred to as the Prince of Liechtenstein) refers to the mixture of both an absolute and constitutional monarchy and monarch of the Principality of Liechtenstein. The Prince of Liechtenstein is the head of state and head of the ruling Princely Family of Liechtenstein. The prince's power includes the appointment of judges, the dismissal of ministers/government, veto power and the calling of referenda as provided under the 2003 constitution which was approved in a national referendum.[2] In 2012, a proposal to revoke the Prince's veto powers was rejected by 76% of voters in a 2012 referendum.[3]

The current prince of Liechtenstein is Hans-Adam II. The prince has reigned since 13 November 1989, making him the one of the relatively few monarchs in continental Europe.
