Kakheti is the easternmost region of Georgia. It was an independent feudal monarchy since the fall of the early Georgian kingdom of Iberia c. 580 until being finally integrated into the unified Kingdom of Georgia in 1105. Kakheti seceded, in 1490, to form an independent kingdom ruled by a branch of the Bagrationi Dynasty and was united with the neighboring Kingdom of Kartli through the personal union in 1762.
