Līvāni
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Līvāni (
pronunciation (help·info)) is a town (population approx. 10,000) in central Latvia. It is situated at the junction of the Dubna and Daugava rivers, approximately 170 kilometers east of Riga, the capital.
In 1980-1990, population of the town was approximately 12,300. Later, people moved to other countries and cities because of unemployment and poverty. Līvāni used to be a large industrial town, however all that is left is a large glass factory "Līvānu stikls" (Glass of Līvāni). Lately the town has been going through a phase of modernisation.
