Cané lost in his UFC debut at UFC 79 when he threw an illegal knee against a downed James Irvin.

Cané later defeated Jason Lambert by KO at UFC 85 in England. He defeated Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou on October 18, 2008, at UFC 89, also in England with a TKO in round two.

At UFC 97 he beat Steve Cantwell, winning a hard-fought unanimous decision where he displayed a good chin and disciplined striking ability.

Cané is known to dislike UFC fighters Thiago Silva and Wanderlei Silva, due to issues back in Brazil. However, it seems that he and Thiago Silva are now good friends, since he helped Silva train for his fight with Lyoto Machida at UFC 94 and together went to a commemoration to celebrate one year of the trainer Stéfane Dias in American Top Team, the team with which he is now affiliated.[2]

Cané was TKO'ed by Antonio Rogerio Nogueira on November 21, 2009, at UFC 106. A left hook to the jaw sent Cané to the floor as Nogueira finished with a series of punches on the ground. Following this loss, Cané received a medical suspension of up to 6 months due to a possible right orbital fracture.[3]

Cané fought UFC newcomer Cyrille Diabate on May 29, 2010, at UFC 114 and lost by TKO in the first round after rocking Diabate early in the fight.[4]

Cané was expected to face Karlos Vemola on March 19, 2011 at UFC 128.[5] However, Vemola was forced from the bout with an injury[6] and replaced by Eliot Marshall.[7] He won the fight via TKO in the first round.

Cané lost by TKO (punches) to Stanislav Nedkov after dominating Nedkov for most of the fight on August 27, 2011 at UFC 134.[8]

Cané is now expected to drop down to the middleweight division.[9]
