30th Anniversary Celebration: The Solo Years

MJ & Friends were concerts held by the American recording artist Michael Jackson in 1999, with numerous other performers as well. The purpose of the tour was to raise funds for children in Kosovo, Africa and elsewhere. Jackson gave two concerts during the tour. The first one took place in Seoul, South Korea on June 25 (ten years to the day he died), and the second one was in Munich, Germany. In an interview with Thomas Gottshalk Jackson was joined by long-time collaborator Slash during the two concerts.

"Earth Song" incident[edit]

During the performance of "Earth Song" on June 27 in Munich, the bridge prop (named "The Bridge of No Return") fell from the top of the stage to below the stage with Jackson on it. Although the prop had functioned properly during the Seoul concert, many fans who attended the concert were oblivious to the accident. He continued the show without any further costume changes. After the show ended, he was rushed to a hospital. In 2007 in a deposition regarding contracts he reportedly signed to Dieter Weisner under the influence of pain medication, Jackson noted he was under pain medication due to the accident.
