[edit] Distribution

Maans and Manns have few villages in Amritsar and Lahore, but are mostly found in the Malwa belt of Punjab. Maana Wala along with neighbouring villages like Mohawa and a village Pherumaan are the main villages of Manns–Maans in District Amritsar. The mour village series such as sukhpura mour, wade(big ) mour, nim wale mour etc. lying in Barnala district of Punjab have their populations mainly maans. Bhullar and Heer/Hayer are related Jat gotras. There is also an extention this gotra (just like shergill from gill) Maanshahia.Name "shahia" was given to a few people in malwa belt by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh as honorary. Mann, Bhullar and Heer–Hayer cliams to be the true jat settlers of modern Punjab. In western Punjab Maans are mostly living in District Nankana Sahib. Machhralah is the main village of maan family and others are walgon sohail, allawal kot, bahawal kot, khazan chan kot, etc. People belonging to Maan clan in Haryana claim common descent with Sihags, Deshwals and Dalals. For about 30 generations they have looked upon "Dhana Rao Rathor" as their forefather. The genealogical tables prepared by the bards of these four gotras are incorrect because they called them the descendants of Dhanna Rathaur, when gotras like "Mann and Sihag" existed long before Dhanna Rao. But Sihags and Manns of Western Punjab are not aware of their association with Deshwals and Dalals. They consider themselves to be the brethren of the Heer or Hayer and Bhullar gotras.[1]

Many Maan Jat families are also based in parts of Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh (mainly Muzaffarnagar, Meerut and Saharanpur districts). Most of these families are engaged in farming.

Maan Jatts along with other Jatts were classified by British recruiters as a "Martial Race", or having perceived virile qualities and military prowess.

[edit] Religion

Maans in Punjab, India follow Sikhism while Maans in Punjab, Pakistan follow Islam.

In Uttar Pradesh, District Bulandshahar has one village as Navinager on Maans,

District Baghpat has two village as Sinoli, Adarsh Nangla.
