The station first opened as Haramachida Station
( on September 23, 1908. 原町田駅) The station was moved 0.4 km toward Hachiōji and renamed Machida on April 1, 1980 to reduce the walking distance between it and Shin-Haramachida Station (now [2 ] Machida Station) on the Odakyu Odawara Line from 700 m to 300 m. [2 ] [3 ]
