Madden NFL 2004 is the 14th installment of the Madden NFL series of American football video games. Michael Vick, the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback, is on the cover. New features in Madden 2004 include a new owner mode option that allows the player to control a franchise. In this mode, the player takes on all the responsibilities related to owning a professional football team, from regulating hot dog prices, to team relocation, to hiring and firing coaching staff. Another new feature is the ability to edit a historic team. Also, a new training camp mode, occurring before the preseason, that can help player progress faster by putting him through mini-camp drills. At the 2003 Spike TV Video Game Awards, Madden NFL 2004 was named "Game of the Year."

- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Miami Dolphins have the best defensive rating with a 91.
- With a 91 Rating, the St. Louis Rams have the best overall offense in the game.
- The best overall team in the game is the Oakland Raiders with a 90 rating.
- With a rating of 65, the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, Detroit Lions, Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Browns have the worst offenses.
- With a rating of 65, the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints, and Indianapolis Colts have the worst defenses.
- Terrell Owens, Marvin Harrison with a rating of 99 are the best players in the game on offense.
- Cover athlete Michael Vick had a speed rating of 95 by far the fastest rated QB in Madden history although a draftable QB has 98 speed. Vick as featured in Madden 2004 was later named the most dominant Madden athlete of the entire series by IGN.

- Linebacker Bill Romanowski (despite being with the Raiders) appears as a free agent in the game.
- Defensive Lineman Dana Stubblefield appears as a free agent.
- Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard appears as a free agent in the game.
- Jason Sehorn appears as a free agent.
- Herman Moore appears as a free agent.
- Ray Lucas appears as a free agent.
- Jim Kubiak (not Gary Kubiak) appears as a reserve quarterback on the Indianapolis Colts and later the free agents.
- LaVar Arrington does not appear in the game by name instead his name is listed as LOLB #51 (instead of 56) because Arrington was not a member of the NFL Players Association at the time. However Arrington can be given his original name by the player. Troy Polamalu and Nnamdi Asomugha have the same problem. However, instead of his normal #43, Polamalu wears #41. Asomugha also wears #29 instead of his normal #21.
- Current CFL Stars Arland Bruce III, Joffrey Reynolds, Joe Smith, and Ken-Yon Rambo appear as free agents in the game.
- MarTay Jenkins appears as a free agent.
- Cade McNown was a free agent as well.
- Deion Sanders, Jake Reed, and Rod Rutledge appear as free agents.
