Maharaja Agrasen College was established in 1994 with the objective of catering to the educational requirements of a densely populated East Delhi. The college is fully funded by the Government of National Capital Territory(NCT) of Delhi. The college has now shifted to its modern and spacious building complex covering 10 acres (40,000 m2) in Vasundhara Enclave, Delhi.
It has valuable infrastructural assets like a state of the art auditorium, a computer centre, fully computerized Library, well equipped laboratories, state - of - the - art conference hall etc. The new building complex has acquired several new facilities like an Information and Communication Technology Center, a Language Laboratory, a Media Laboratory, an Indira Gandhi Open University Center, and a University Grants Commission Research Center among others. The college also provides residential facilities for girl students. 
The college has a teaching faculty of 100 members, and administrative staff of 51 members and is managed by a Governing Body of 15 distinguished academicians under the Chairmanship of Sh. Mukesh Kumar. The college functions under the administrative and academic control of the University of Delhi as one of its constituent colleges. Current Principal of the college, Sunil Sondhi is a scholar in the field of international relations. During his research and teaching career spanning over three decades, he has received many international research awards, which include: J. William Fulbright Fellowship; Gerald R. Ford Fellowship; Rockefeller Research Grant; Salzburg Program Fellowship; Canada Asia Pacific Award; and Shastri Applied Research Project Award. Sunil Sondhi is a mountaineer and has trekked extensively in the Himalayas.
In 2013, Maharaja Agrasen College was awarded with the Best College Award by the University of Delhi for its good practices towards creating the best academic environment amongst all the colleges of the University. The Award was given by the Secretary, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, on February 24, 2013, in the presence of Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi, Dinesh Singh. In the same event i.e. 'Antardhvani', college student Saif Ahmad Khan of BA (Honours) Journalism was adjudged as the Best Debater in the University of Delhi. 
In March 2013, the college was awarded a grant of Rs 50 lakh by the Govt of NCT of Delhi for establishing a center for Civic Education Maharaja Agrasen College CEMAC to promote constitutional values among the students and society of the country. The college was also awarded a grant of Rs 25 lakh by the Govt. of NCT of Delhi to establish a Museum of Hindi Literature in college, the first of its kind in the University of Delhi

In June 2013, India Today-AC Nielsen Survey of Best Colleges in India, placed Maharaja Agrasen College among the first fifteen in North India, and first fifty in whole India, in Arts and Humanities. Maharaja Agrasen College also ranked 4th among Best Emerging Colleges in Science, and ranked 5th among Best Emerging Colleges in Commerce. Maharaja Agrasen College, established in 1994, is among the youngest college to enter these rankings, where most of the colleges are more than fifty years old and several are over 100 years old.
The college has a fully computerized,air conditioned, well stocked library to cater to the academic and research needs of the faculty and students. The library renders services such as lending of books and journals, reading space, and also facilitates bibliographic reference and e-information booths.
Information Communication Technology Centre
The Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre of Maharaja Agrasen College is the largest ICT centre amongst all colleges of the University of Delhi.
Some unique features of MAC - ICT relevant to the present centre are:

- - Active collaboration of IT industry in design and teaching of value added courses relevant to the curriculum.

- Media Laboratory
The Maharaja Agrasen College has a 'state of the art' Media Lab for providing practical exposure to the students to make their career in Modern Media Industry with the help of latest technological equipments in all media streams. In college, it has a Studio Floor, post-Production Lab, Audio Studio and Professional Lighting Equipments for practical exposure in the area of production. Post-Production Studio is equipped with latest Video-Editing Software i.e. FCP etc.
- Learning Resource Center
The Learning Resource Centre offers students access to e-journals, e-content, e-learning material and open access computing facilities. Students are encouraged to access the learning resource centre in order to hone their academic and creative skills.
- Computer Laboratories
The Centralized Computer Lab is one of the best equipped labs in University of Delhi with various computing and visualization facilities which enable its users to carry out innovative and effective pursuit of knowledge and perform high quality research.
- Integrated Laboratory
The Integrated Lab caters to the specific curriculum needs of the students of B.Sc (Programme) Applied Physical Science. It is stocked with the latest equipment like Orbital Shakers, UV Spectrometers, [Electrophoresis] Units and Flame Photometers.
- Electronics and Physics Lab
The Electronics Lab has been designed to meet the specialized requirements of the students of B.Sc Electronics and B.Sc (Programme) Applied Physical Science. Equipped with ultra modern equipment and technology, it motivates and enables students to carry out experiments in an efficient environment.
A Cultural Council conferred with the responsibility of organising the societies and cultural events in college is active as an umbrella institution for all cultural activities. The primary objective of the Cultural Council is to promote Indian culture music and arts among the students and staff of the college. Emphasis is on participation and learning of the students and staff and not on inviting popular artistes the passive entertainment.

The college has a Student Council for facilitating discourse amongst students and teachers, the Council also runs a Grievance Redress Cell for the assistance of students. The Student Council is constituted by the meritorius students from all the classes of the college. The primary function of Student Council is to facilitate academic functioning of the college in the best interests of the students. In 2013 the Student Council of the college organised the first ever Student Academic Congress in the University of Delhi.

Committee Against Sexual Harassment
The ordinance XV - D is based on the policy against Sexual Harassment by the Delhi University and seeks to maintain and create an academic and work environment free of sexual harassment for students, academic and non-teaching staff of the Delhi University. A committee against Sexual Harassment has been constituted to deal with issues pertaining to students, teachers and administrative staff.
