This agency is under Selangor state government. MPSJ are responsible for the public's health and sanitation, waste removal and management, town planning, environmental protection and building control, social and economic development and general maintenance functions of urban infrastructure. The MPSJ headquarters is located in USJ 5.

History[edit]

Formerly known as Majlis Daerah Petaling (MDP) (Petaling District Council) which administrated the entire Petaling district (except Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam). In 1997, Subang Jaya was granted the status of a municipality. The local authority was then transferred from the Majlis Perbandaran Petaling Jaya (MPPJ) (Petaling Jaya Municipal Council) which administrates Subang Jaya north area to the newly gazetted Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) (Subang Jaya Municipal Council). The MPSJ holds local government authority not only in Subang Jaya, but also townships located within the city such as USJ, Putra Heights, Bandar Sunway and Batu Tiga and other townships like Puchong, Kinrara, Seri Kembangan, and other southern parts of Petaling district.

Cooking Oil Recycling Project[edit]

The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) announced their Cooking Oil Recycling Project in their full board meetings on August 26, 2009. The pilot project would be carried out in USJ for six months on a trial basis before the council decides whether to expand it to other areas. They would be provided with a container each to store the used cooking oil in their kitchens and MPSJ’s contractor would collect the oil once a week.

For every litre of oil collected, the restaurants would be paid 25 sen. The used cooking oil can be processed to make bitumen [1]
