  • 12 July 1963: The Pulau Senang prison riots saw the killing of four prisons officers by rioting prisoners. The unprecedently large court proceedings sentenced 18 to death. [1]
  • 27 August 1963: Sunny Ang was convicted using situational evidence for the murder of bar maid Jenny Cheok, although her body was never found. [2]

  • 29 December 1971: The Gold Bars triple murders saw a gold merchant and his two employees robbed and killed. Seven men were sentenced to death for the crime. [3]
  • 25 April 1978: Police national serviceman Lee Kim Lai was murdered for his revolver by Ong Chin Hock, Yeo Ching Boon and Ong Hwee Kuan. En route to kidnapping him from his sentry post at Mount Vernon, they also killed the taxi driver, Chew Theng Hin.

  • 25 January 1981: In the Toa Payoh ritual murders, the body of a nine-year-old girl was found dumped next to the lift of a block of flats in the Toa Payoh district and, two weeks later, a ten-year-old boy was found dead nearby.

  • September 1993: Chong Poh Choon and his wife murdered their three children at their Bukit Batok flats and then attempted suicide.
  • 23 September 1994: Dutch national Johannes van Damme was hanged for smuggling heroin. He was the first European executed in Singapore since its independence.
  • 8 March 1995: In a case that became known as the "body parts murder", British national John Martin murdered South African Gerard George Lowe in a hotel room at the River View Hotel. John dismembered Gerard's body and disposed the body parts at the Singapore River, just behind the hotel where the pair shared a room.

  • 2 January 2002: "Orchard Towers double murder": Michael McCrea, a British expatriate in his 40s murdered his driver friend Kho Nai Guan and the latter's girlfriend Susie Lan in a condominium in the classy Balmoral area. After the murders, the bodies of the two deceased were left inside a car which was later abandoned at Orchard Towers.
  • 15 February 2006: Singaporean Tan Chor Jin a.k.a "One-eyed dragon" shot and killed nightclub owner Lim Hock Soon at the latter's apartment at Serangoon Ave 4 in the early hours of the morning. The weapon used was believed to be a Beretta 92. A total of 5 shots were fired.
