Mama Omida (Caterpillar Mother) was a legendary and great witch, claimed as an ancestor (for marketing purposes) by many modern-day Romanian quacks and charlatans dealing in the occult. The origins of this modern-day myth remain unclear.
She is claimed to have been the official witch of the Ceauşescu family. She uses modern tools for fortune telling, like palm reading, reading in coffee leftovers, or reading in beans. For extra money she claimed she could alter one's future, by performing several types of witchcraft: farmece (spells), descântece (incantations) or rupere de vrăji (breaking of bad spells).
