Manali has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 75%, and female literacy is 67%. In Manali, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Manali is a Northern Suburb of Chennai city. It borders Tiruvottiyur to the east, Mathur MMDA to the west, Kodungaiyur to the south, 100 ft road to the North. The main throughfares in the area is Kamarajar Salai,Chinna mathur Road,Parthasarathy street.
Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL)(formerly MRL) is the largest company in Manali. Started in 1969, CPCL's Manali Refinery now has a capacity of 9.5 MMTPA and is one of the most complex refineries in India with Fuel, Lube, Wax and Petrochemical feedstocks production facilities. The main products of the company are LPG, Motor Spirit, Superior Kerosene, Aviation Turbine Fuel, High Speed Diesel, Naphtha, Bitumen, Lube Base Stocks, Paraffin Wax, Fuel Oil, Hexane and Petrochemical feed stocks
