ManyCam is freeware that adds live CGI graphics such as glasses or hats to a webcam's output that automatically tracking face movements along with many other features. The name of the software is derived from its feature allowing users to use their webcam with multiple Windows or Mac applications simultaneously. It also supports dynamic and static virtual backgrounds, text over video, and drawing over video. In version 2.3, virtual 3D masks were added. ManyCam can also use the desktop as a video source along with videos and many other types of sources.
There is also a simple module for creating effects included within the software, which mainly consists of adding image files, videos, and converts them to a ManyCam friendly format. Face effects and backgrounds can also be created. The ManyCam website has a database of more than 7,000 webcam video effects, most of which are user-generated.
ManyCam uses a webcam or video camera as input for the software itself and then replicates itself as an alternative source of input. Because of this, ManyCam works well with nearly all chat software such as Windows Live Messenger that can use alternative video sources.
On 11 March 2009, a Mac OS X version was released dubbed as 1.0, that supports iSight capture and all the features of version 2.3 On 12 October 2009 version 1.041 with Mac OS X Snow Leopard support was released. Official Windows 7 support was also added around the same time.
