Mark Barnsley (born 1961) is a British anarchist who served eight years out of a twelve year prison sentence for grievous bodily harm after being involved in a pub brawl near his Sheffield home in 1994. He was released in June 2002 after his case became a cause célèbre for anarchists, particularly in Britain.[1]
Supporters claim Barnsley was just trying to defend his friend and child from a group of drunken students, and that his conviction was a result of political and class prejudice.[2][3] Barnsley has failed to date to have his conviction overturned.
