[edit] Background

Templeton utilizes a background in bluegrass music and acoustic instruments such as the guitar, banjo and accordion to compose ambient electronic music.[1] His style has been called 'glitchy',[2] but also 'painterly',[3] in an attempt to describe his deconstruction and crumbling of instruments' traditional voices.[4]

Templeton's works have been commissioned by organizations of contemporary dance,[5] film and audiovisual[6] disciplines. His live performances have at times been accompanied by Edmonton-based experimental filmmaker aAron Munson’s visuals.[7] This ongoing collaboration between the two Alberta-born Canadian artists resulted in the 2008 production of M. Templeton & aA. Munson: Acre Loss CD and DVD.[8]

Templeton has performed at international festivals and alternative spaces such as MUTEK (Montreal),[9] Unsound Festival (Kraków),[10] send+receive: a festival of sound (Winnipeg),[11] Eat This Festival (Utrecht),[12] Galapagos (New York),[13] Latitude 53 (Edmonton)[14] and Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival (Montreal).[15]
