History and origins
The etymology of the name according to some traditions is that a certain Rae was told by his astrologers that a boy would be born in a Rae family who would destroy his kingdom, so he ordered that all the children born to Rae families should be killed, but Maral's mother concealed him in a drum, and so he was named Maral (from the Sindhi marhna to muffle).Marral family were also considered one of famous persons. In Shahjewana District Jhang, Marrals were the rulers before arrival of Pir Shahjewana. The Marral ara was demolished by Pir Shahjewana.Soon after that Pir Shahjewana was defeated by the Dogars.The Dogars recalled the Sardar(Head) of Marral family and offer them to rule again but the Sardar of Marrals denied to took it but the Marrals serve as the Chief of army.Marral family also considered the one of the big landlord families.

The Marral are found mainly in Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Multan, Muzaffargarh and Jhang districts. Kashmore District Their villages in Rajanpur District include Jindo Marral and Phagan Marral.In Chiniot District, chak no 15 Marralwala, and Multan District and Qasba Marral.
