MediaCorp TV Channel U (U频道; pinyin: U Pín Dào) is the second Chinese-language channel in Singapore and was inaugurated on 1 January 2005 (although it had been broadcast since 6 May 2001 under SPH Mediaworks). Taking over the channel from SPH Mediaworks as a result of the media merger, it targets the younger generations of Chinese Singaporeans as an alternative channel to the more established Channel 8.
In 2009, the station changed its post-merger slogan (带动亚洲流行, Leading Asia's Trends) to 最精彩 (Most Exciting). This slogan complements Channel 8's longtime slogan, 最亲切 (Most Endearing).
[edit] Post-Merger
In its first four year, the channel continued to show imported programmes which had been telecast while the Channel was run by SPH Mediaworks as well as screening other imported programmes, resulting in the channel having no locally-produced content except for the two news bulletins. Locally-produced programmes began airing from 1 January 2005 onwards, which included a revamp of the news bulletins, the addition of five current events programmes, and four variety programmes. Channel U's target audience consists of Singaporeans aged 15-45. Current broadcasting hours begin at 3 pm, Monday through Friday, 10 am on weekends.
TV tuner frequency 487.250 MHz
