The media of Indonesia consist of several different types of communications media: television, radio, cinema, newspapers, magazines, and Internet-based Web sites.

Media freedom in Indonesia increased considerably after the end of President Suharto's rule, during which the now-defunct Ministry of Information monitored and controlled domestic media and restricted foreign media. Indonesians have mostly embraced the democratic process, and an energetic news media faces few restrictions.[1] The number of printed publications had increased significantly since 1998. There are hundreds of new magazines, newspapers, and tabloids. By 2002, newspaper reach had climbed to over 40 per cent of the adult population of the country.(pdf)
The television market has expanded to include some 10 national commercial networks, which compete with public TVRI. Some provinces also operate their own stations.
Private radio stations carry their own news bulletins and foreign broadcasters can supply programmes. The radio dial is crowded, with scores of stations on the air in Jakarta alone.
In 2003 the authorities reported that more than 2,000 illegal TV and radio stations were broadcasting across the country. The government urged them to apply for licences, or face closure.
The current trend are digital multimedia and "news on demand" from online news portal.

Harian Terbit daily nnewspaper in jakarta Indonesian Several leading Indonesian newspaper such as Kompas can be obtained at digital newspaper printing services in several foreign countries. Some large newspapers also use remote digital printing to solve the distribution problems in remote areas in Indonesia.

- Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) - public, operates six national networks, regional and local stations, external service Voice of Indonesia. Several Indonesian radio stations are available as free streaming audio service on Internet.
Since 2006, there are several Digital radio stations in Jakarta and Surabaya, based on Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) and Hybrid HD-Radio (In-band On Channel/IBOC).
