Mercat Nou (Barcelona Metro)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mercat Nou is a station of the Barcelona Metro. It's served by L1 (red line). Built in 1926, it was one of the system's few open-air stations before being demolished and rebuilt due to the revamping of the metro and Renfe railway lines in the area. Two AVE lines cross the area right underneath the station on their way to Sants Estació. The station reopened in June 2009, after nearly two years of closure. According to Barcelona City Council the work cost €15.6 million.
Formerly called Mercado Nuevo, the station has accesses on the Carrer de Riera de Tena and the Carrer dels Jocs Florals. The western accesses lead to a central platform.
