[edit] Amateur career

As an amateur boxer, Maguire fought for the Kettering School of Boxing and achieved the World under-19 number one ranking at bantamweight. He was a member of the Great Britain Olympic squad but did not manage to qualify for the Olympics as bantamweight Joe Murray and flyweight Khalid Yafai qualified before him at the weights in which he would have been eligible.[2][3]

[edit] Professional career

After missing out on the Olympics, Maguire signed for fledgling promotional outfit Hayemaker Promotions a decision that caused alarm at the Amateur Boxing Association.[4] Maguire's first professional contest took place on 20 September 2008 at the Hillsborough Leisure Center in Sheffield. He scored a points win over journeyman Delroy Spencer. His next fight took place at the O2 Arena in London and resulted in a first round knockout win against Yordan Vasilev. Maguire fought three times in 2009 defeating Faycal Messaoudene at York Hall in February, James Ancliff at the Ulster Hall in April and Sergey Rozhakmens, returning to the York Hall in December.[1] On 22 January 2010 Maguire fought his last fight to date defeating Pavels Senkov at the Brentwood Centre in Essex.[1]
