Michael J. Mandel is an economist and economic journalist. He is currently chief economic strategist of the Progressive Policy Institute, editor-in-chief of the news and education company Visible Economy LLC and the former chief economist of Business Week.
Mandel is the author of many books, including The High Risk Society(1996), The Coming Internet Depression (2000), Rational Exuberance: Silencing the Enemies of Growth and Why the Future Is Better Than You Think (2004).
He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
On March 24, 2007, he spoke at the Startup School at Stanford University.
On March 25, 2008, he spoke at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah, Georgia, and on March 26 at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. He spoke concerning "What's next for the economy?"
Mandel recently wrote a basic economics textbook for McGraw-Hill. He resides in Millburn, New Jersey, and has two children.
