Michael McGinlay (born in Bolton, 10 December 1987) is a professional footballer whose last club was Dundalk in the League of Ireland [1]. He is the son of Bolton Wanderers legend John McGinlay.
[edit] Career
McGinlay played at least one season for the Warren County Warriors soccer club in Lebanon, Ohio. He helped lead them to an A division title before leaving the club to go back overseas.
McGinlay began his career at Manchester City but never made the breakthrough so he moved to America where he signed for the Cincinnati Kings. He scored 9 times in 33 appearances for the club in his first season.
A winger or striker, he signed for Bohs in July 2007 and scored his first goal for the club on 19 October in a 2-1 win over Derry City.
He signed for Bohs in July 2007 and scored twice in six league outings before, after Sean Connor departed, he fell out of favour under new manager Pat Fenlon last season. As a result, McGinlay left midway through the campaign to join Ballymena United on-loan.
In January 2009, he signed for Dundalk and made his debut when entering as a substitute during the 1-0 loss at Galway United on 13 March.
At the end of the 2009 season he was released by the Oriel Park outfit [2].
