Michael Duff Newton is an American hypnotherapist and founder of The Michael Newton Institute for Life Between Lives Hypnotherapy (TNI). Newton states on his website that he holds a PhD degree, but does not state which educational institution awarded his degree. He is an author of books on past life regression and has been described as an authority on "life between life" regression therapy. The Newton Institute states that it has a membership of over 200 hypnotherapy facilitators in more than 30 countries. Newton's work was the subject of a book and a 90-minute documentary in 2012 by filmmaker Richard Martini, Flipside: A Journey Into the Afterlife. His book Destiny of Souls won the Independent Publisher Book Award in 2001 in the New Age category, one of 49 categories of that annual award.
Journey of Souls (1994) is the first book by Newton in which he introduced his technique of "age regression" therapy. It presents the case studies from 35 years of interviews. His patients originally sought hypnotherapy for therapeutic treatment. Newton believes that during their visits, patients passed through "the spirit world".
