[edit] Boundaries

The constituency was created in 1997 from parts of the seats of North Dorset, Bournemouth West, South Dorset and Poole. Its current boundaries take in parishes from three districts; namely Purbeck, Poole, and East Dorset. Main population centres include Merley, Broadstone, Corfe Mullen, Bere Regis, and Wareham.

Boundary changes in place for the 2010 general election see Wimborne Minster moved into the constituency from North Dorset with other boundary alterations to take into account any district ward changes.
