Militia Christi is a continuation of a centuries-old Catholic movement founded by Saint Dominic as a kind of auxiliary in suppressing insurgents inspired by the Albigensian heresy. St. Catherine of Siena was among its more illustrious members. The validity of continuation has been protected by the survival of the Benedictio Novi Militis (benediction of new knights) that can still be used in some places and has never stopped since the middle-ages. A lot of documents can be found about this continuation in the movement's archive.

St. Dominic is more famous as the founder of the Order of Preachers, more commonly known as the Dominicans.
