The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration of Romania (Romanian: Ministerul Dezvoltării Regionale și Administrației Publice) is an institution of the Romanian central public administration, subordinated to the Government of Romania, created on 23 December 2009, as a ministerial department in the Second Emil Boc cabinet. The ministry was created following a merger between the former Ministry of Regional Development and Housing and the former Ministry of Tourism.

Ministers[edit]

Currently, the Minister of regional development and tourism is Eduard Hellvig, secretary general of the PNL, appointed with the Ponta Cabinet, on 7 May 2012.

The previous mandate was attributed to Cristian Petrescu, appointed Minister of regional development and tourism in the Ungureanu Cabinet, on 9 February 2012.

The first Minister of regional development and tourism was Elena Gabriela Udrea, who begun the mandate on 23 December 2009, within the Second Emil Boc cabinet.

Overview[edit]

The Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism (MRDT/MDRT) carries out government policies in the fields of regional development, territorial development and cohesion, cross-border, transnational and interregional cooperation, Spatial planning, urban planning and architecture, housing, real estate and urban planning management and development, public works, construction and tourism.

In these areas, the Ministry manages programmes financed by European and national funds: Regio-the Regional Operational Programme 2007-2013, European territorial cooperation programmes, PHARE - Economic and Social Cohesion programmes and Cross-border cooperation programmes, programmes of territorial development, housing construction, thermal rehabilitation of housing blocks, retrofitting of earthquake prone buildings, development of rural infrastructure, construction of sports halls and cultural homes. In the field of tourism, the MRDT manages programmes for the development of the touristic infrastructure and the promotion of Romania's tourism.
