Fictional character biography
Mogul of the Mystic Mountain is the evil ruler of Zanadu the Mystic Mountain in Skornheim, a land in the Asgardian dimension. Mogul commands a powerful "Jinni Devil" and other mystical beings.
Mogul long ago conquered the land that was home to Hogun the Grim. Thousands perished in his coup and under his tyranny, as Mogul laid waste to the land. Hogun escaped with his fathers and brothers, who dedicated their lives to finding the Mystic Mountain, Mogul's home; Hogun's relatives perished seeking the Mountain.
When Hogun, alongside Thor, Fandral, and Volstagg, saw Mogul's handiwork, Hogun challenged him. Mogul appeared, taunting them with his sorcerous powers, but was carried off to the Mystic Mountain by his Jinni Devil before the warriors could attack him.[volume & issue needed]
As the warriors approached Zanadu, Mogul watched them through his magical crystal, and sent the Jinni to fight them. The Jinni was no match for the quartet of gods, who stormed Zanadu. As they fought their way through Mogul's defenses, Mogul prepared to infect Hogun's remaining countrymen with a horrible plague. Before he could release the plague, the heroes broke into his throne room, and the thief Alibar cast a spell that unleashed a bolt of temporal force that destroyed Mogul.[volume & issue needed]
Mogul had actually been trapped inside the Enchanted Rod of Wondrous Wizard Power, which Volstagg had forcibly obtained from Mogul's sister, Shezada. Alibar became the new ruler of the Mystic Mountain, but Shezada seduced Alibar and freed Mogul. Mogul retook Zanadu and threw Alibar in the dungeon. Hermod and Hogun tried to rescue Alibar, but were defeated and imprisoned as well. Hermod was able to escape, and returned to Asgard.[volume & issue needed]
Mogul transported the Mystic Mountain to just outside the city of Asgard just as Hermod arrived to warn his allies. The Asgardians fought Mogul's minions, and Thor confronted Mogul. Mogul nearly overpowered Thor, but Thor held on against Mogul's magic blade long enough for Sif, Alibar, and Hogun to break into Mogul's throne room once again, and Alibar trapped Mogul inside a magic lamp. Thor was nearly trapped in the lamp himself, but was able to seal the lamp and trap Mogul permanently.[volume & issue needed]
