Monster Hunter 3 (tri-) is the third console installment in the popular Monster Hunter franchise scheduled for release for the Wii. The title was initially scheduled for release on the PlayStation 3 but was announced to have been moved to the Wii during Nintendo's Fall 2007 Conference "due to high development cost of titles for PS3".[2] A trailer of the game was also shown during the same event. It was also announced that a demo is being released only in Japan as an addition with the Monster Hunter G Pack on the 23rd of April 2009. Monster Hunter 3 will be released in Japan on August 1, 2009.
It has also been recently announced that a special package for Monster Hunter 3 will be available for retail in Japan. This package will include, Monster Hunter 3, a Black Wii, and a Classic Controller Pro, for 33, 000 Yen (roughly $340 US). It is not confirmed however, whether the bundle will only be in Japan or not.[3]
[edit] Development
Gameplay will involve underwater environments[4].
Another feature Capcom is looking at implementing a Monster Hunter Theater, which will record battles and allow them to be played back from various angles, and store them on a central server accessible via web browser.
Also, Capcom confirmed new maps such as a desert area and new monsters, with completely redesigned monster interactive AI, creating an artificial ecosystem.
New monsters include:
- Jagii - A new type of raptor with a heavy spiked tail.
- Dosujagii - The Jagii drome
- Jagiinosu - Female version of the Jagii
- Kurupekko - A new bird-wyvern that can call other monsters to its aid
- Ragiakurusu - The main monster of the game, and electrical leviathan that can go on land and water
- 'Water Herbivores' - Aquatic herbivores
- 'Water minions' - Green monsters that can walk on land and swim in water. Different from the Water Herbivores
- 'Water minion drome' - A drome for the water minions
- Boruborosu - A new rock monster, looks like a cross between a T-rex and a Basarios with its own unique status 'Adobe'
- 'Ant minions' - Over sized ants, these are the main food source for the Boruborosu but not much else is known
- 'Leaf-headed Lynian' - A new lynian, a new aid for the hunter, can use items given to it by the player
- Chanagaburu - A giant, swamp-dwelling angler fish covered in spines.
- Uragankin - A volcanic monster with an armored lower jaw that is able to roll itself into a ball.
- 'Land Dolphins' - Dolphin-like creatures able to swim and leap through sand.
- Gigi Whelps - Sluglike infant form of the Giginebura, act as other 'minion' type monsters. It can be found in the demo. It is frequently mistaken to be the infant form of the Khezu/Furufuru (another monster in the series) by those unfamiliar with the Japanese language.
- 'Lava/Desert Serpent' - Serpentine dragons that burrow through the lava or desert respectively.
- Beriorosu - A white, tigrex-like wyvern that lives in cold climates and has huge serrated fangs.
- 'bug minions' - New species of bugs. they are red and look like Vespoids. Only found flying around. Can be found in demo.[5]
According to a recent interview with game producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, each weapon class will be updated with new moves and innovations. Weapon classes included will be Sword and Shield, Great Sword, Hammer, Bowgun (Light, Medium & Heavy), Lance, Katana (Longsword), and the new Slash Axe, which can switch between Axe and sword forms. It has been confirmed that Bows, Gunlances, Hunting Horns, and Dual Swords will not be returning, though they will probably be reintroduced in later games.
