NAIA national women's gymnastics championship

The NAIA sponsored a women's gymnastics championship between 1981 and 1988, when it was discontinued. The rise of Division III gymnastics thru the NCAA made the need for the NAIA organization less thus its fade out.
A new similar association has sprung up in 2008 due to the changing environment of college sports due to missuses of Title IX laws to reorganize University/College Athletic department sports to "supposedly" fulfill the legal requirements of equal gender sport support. Reality is the law is used by AD's and University/College Presidents to drop sports from their roster, scramble in new cheaper sports "supposedly" to fulfill the law, but in turn allows them to feed the ball sports (football / basketball etc.) more financial support and others less.
This has forced many Universities and College Gymnastic programs to reform as non school supported "clubs". Their governing body is now the NAIGC (National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastic Clubs) http://www.naigc.net/index.php
