Within this division, there are programming and distribution departments. The company announced the formation of its production unit, NBC Universal Cable Studio, in March 2008. The distribution arm of the division is called TV Networks Distribution, which is also charged with supervising the release of Universal Pictures and NBC Universal On Demand content on pay-per-view and on demand on cable, as well as NBC Universal's external digital endeavors including Hulu, electronic sell-through, and programming for mobile platforms.
The division also oversees joint ventures in A&E Television Networks, CNBC (and world counterpart CNBC World), G4, E!, MSNBC, ShopNBC, Tivo, The Weather Channel, and National Geographic Channel International.
The division was previously known as NBC Cable, USA Networks (a.k.a. USA Cable), and Universal Television Networks before taking on its current name in 2004 when NBCUniversal was established.
