[edit] Nomination procedure
Students are nominated to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum by "teachers and alumni of previous conferences, and it culls names from mailing lists, for which the council paid $263,000 in 2006."[1][2] Tuition ranges from $1,440 to more than $2,000 depending upon the program. The fee covers accommodations, breakfast and dinner, program materials, and bus transportation. Students are responsible for other expenses including airfare, ground transportation to and from the conference, lunch, and other incidental expenses. A limited scholarship program is available to students with financial need.[3]
The National Youth Leadership Forum, the Congressional Youth Leadership Council and Envision EMI were founded by Barbara Harris and Richard Rossi.
[edit] Finances
According to NYLF's 2006 IRS Form 990 (required for non-profits and tax-exempt organizations), NYLF's total revenue was $29 million.[2] $2.4 million was paid for postage and shipping, and $10 million was paid to parent company Envision EMI for "Program Management Fees."
The Better Business Bureau revoked accreditation of NYLF's parent company, Envision EMI, in February 2009.[4] Since then, the BBB has changed the company's rating to a "B", showing that the company has resolved or made every reasonable effort to resolve 100% of the 82 complaints filed with the BBB within the last 3 years. This includes 2 delayed resolutions. [5]
[edit] NYLF Forums & Overview
NYLF currently offers three forums. The National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security,[6] the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law & CSI,[7] and the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine.[8] NYLF previously organized forums in Nursing[9] and Technology.[10]
