The National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI) is a semi autonomous unit of the Ministry of Agriculture in Eritrea. The institute was previously was known as DARHARD (Department of Agricultural Research and Human Resources Development).
NARI has five divisions:
- Animal Resources Research,
- Crop Development Research,
- Natural Resources Management Research,
- Agricultural Engineering Research,
- Human Resources Development and Training.
It has also other supporting Units:
- Socio Economics Unit,
- Planning and Statistics Unit,
- Communication and Puplic Relations Unit.
Director General of NARI: Dr. Iyassu Ghebretatios currently NARI is going under a severe budget problem. Many people have marched with anger against NARI for making genetically engineered crops which have been proven to be unhealthy by most countries also NARI supports the use of pesticide and insectiside.
