National Geographic Channel is a Canadian English language category 2 digital cable specialty channel that is owned by CW Media (a division of Canwest and GS Capital Partners) and National Geographic Channel (U.S.). It features documentary and human interest programming that explores the natural world around us. The service is based on the world famous National Geographic Magazine.

Programming includes specials and theme weeks such as 'Pharaoh's Week' and 'Shark Week'. The programs broadcast revolve around the following topics: geography, popular science, world history, current events and photography.

On December 19, 2006, Alliance Atlantis launched a high definition simulcast of National Geographic Channel.

Licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) in November 2000 to Alliance Atlantis, the channel launched on September 7, 2001 under its current name.

On January 18, 2008, a joint venture between Canwest and GS Capital Partners bought Alliance Atlantis and gained AAC's interest in National Geographic Channel.
