The National Hardwood Floor Association released an album of political prank calls to Christian radio station KPDQ[disambiguation needed
] in 1992. The only known members of the group were Joel Schalit, who later became co-editor of the magazine Punk Planet and was a member of the follow-on group Christal Methodists and the post-rock group Elders Of Zion; and Electro Motive records owner and Wetgate member Peter Conheim, who joined Negativland in the late 1990s. The NHFA's influence can be clearly discerned in both Schalit and Conheim's post-Savage Vigilance recordings. The NHFA spun off another prank-call enterprise, The Christal Methodists, which also collaborated on projects with Brother Russell Ministries.
[edit] History
The National Hardwood Floor Association started in Portland, Oregon in 1987. Originally consisting of a group of undergraduate students attending Reed College, the 'band' was anointed the NHFA by Conheim for the release of the Savage Vigilance For A Rug-Free America LP. First issued by his own Electro Motive label, the CD version was produced under a cooperation agreement with Portland imprint Soleilmoon Recordings in 1993. According to the Electro Motive website, though the vinyl edition is out of print, the Savage Vigilance CD remains available.
