List of Once Upon a Time characters
Once Upon a Time
Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), a bail bond agent and her birth-son, Henry (Jared S. Gilmore) discover that a New England town, aptly named Storybrooke, Maine, is actually a remnant of a parallel world that was cursed by the Evil Queen Regina (Lana Parrilla). The characters from this world are predominantly from fairy tales in the land entitled the Enchanted Forest while other inhabitants came from The Land Without Color (a black and white world where the witchcraft there is not as strong as the witchcraft in the Enchanted Forest) and Wonderland. They initially have no memory of who they were, including the parents of Emma: Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas), who sent her to the real world to break the curse. Following the curse being broken by Emma, Mr. Gold (Robert Carlyle) brings magic to Storybrooke and the characters reunite as their true selves. It is revealed that crossing the border surrounding Storybrooke will remove the inhabitants' fairy tale memories again. Rumplestiltskin later procures a potion that allows him to leave and find his son Baelfire, only to discover he is Henry's father - under his real-world alias Neal Cassidy (Michael Raymond-James). Outsiders Greg Mendell (Ethan Embry) and Tamara (Sonequa Martin-Green) arrive in Storybrooke and carry out their quest to destroy magic from the town. After failing, the pair kidnap Henry to Neverland, leaving Emma, Mary Margaret (Snow White), David (Prince Charming), Regina, Mr. Gold and Captain Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) to rescue him.
Upon arrival in Neverland, Rumplestiltskin's father Peter Pan (Robbie Kay) obtains Henry, keeping possession of him with help from the Lost Boys. After retrieving Henry from Neverland and successfully returning to Storybrooke, Pan enacts the original curse once more that sends all inhabitants back to their original worlds. Emma and Henry escape to New York City and have happy memories of their life together while losing their memories of Storybrooke. In the Enchanted Forest, Zelena, the Wicked Witch of the West (Rebecca Mader) begins her revenge plot against her half-sister Regina, ultimating in the characters being returned to Storybrooke, and leaving Emma to again save the residents. Mary Margaret and David welcome a son who they name after a sacrificed Neal, and Zelena is eventually defeated, though her time-travelling portal welcomes Elsa to the town.

When Snow White becomes pregnant, Geppetto forms a magical wardrobe for her and Charming, after Rumplestiltskin informs them that their daughter is the key to breaking the Evil Queen's curse in 28 years. Emma is born shortly after and placed in the wardrobe, successfully travelling to the new land. In the real world, Emma grows up in foster care, later becoming a petty criminal with Neal Cassidy. They plan to start a new life, until Neal is persuaded by August Booth (Pinocchio) to turn Emma into the police to protect her destiny as "The Savior". Emma is jailed, later giving birth to Henry, whom she places up for adoption to give him a better life; he is then adopted by Regina Mills (the Evil Queen). On her 28th birthday, a ten-year-old Henry arrives in Boston, explaining Emma's origins. Disbelieving him, she returns him home to Regina in Storybrooke, who becomes worried that Emma wants to be in Henry's life. Regina's repeated warnings to leave town and keep out of Henry's life make Emma decide to stay.
In Storybrooke, Emma initially wants Henry to let go of his theories of the curse, but later plays along. She moves in with Mary Margaret (Snow White), unaware that they are related, and Sheriff Graham appoints Emma his deputy as the two form an attraction, until Regina crushes his heart, causing him to die in Emma's arms. Emma is then elected sheriff, assisting in the arrest of Mary Margaret for the alleged murder of Kathryn Nolan, until she is found alive. When August Booth (Pinocchio) arrives in Storybrooke revealing Emma's destiny of breaking the curse, she insists she is no savior, and decides to leave the town, not wanting Henry to suffer from her and Regina's feud. Regina, however, attempts to poison Emma, though Henry willingly consumes it to prove that magic exists. Emma finally believes, but Henry is pronounced dead. However, he is awoken with true love's kiss from Emma, thus breaking the curse and allowing all residents to remember their true identities. Emma reunites with her parents, only to fall through a portal with her mother to the Enchanted Forest. There, they meet Princess Aurora and Mulan who help them eventually return to Storybrooke. Emma then helps Mr. Gold travel to Manhattan to locate his son Baelfire, who she discovers is Henry's father Neal. Returning to Storybrooke, Emma deals with newcomers Greg Mendell and Neal's fiancé Tamara. Emma's skeptical theories on the pair are proven correct when it is revealed they want to destroy the town and magic. After Emma and Regina stop a trigger to destroy Storybrooke activated by Greg and Tamara, the latter pair kidnap Henry and take him to Neverland; Emma, her parents, Regina, Hook and Mr. Gold follow them. In Neverland, Emma becomes leader of the group, rescuing Neal and Henry, and returning to Storybrooke with the remaining inhabitants of Neverland, unaware that Peter Pan has inhabited Henry's body. After Henry is saved by Gold, Pan enacts the original curse once more, forcing Emma and Henry to leave Storybrooke after Regina reverses her curse, erasing the events following its enactment. Emma's past is altered by Regina and she lives with Henry in New York City instead of giving him up for adoption.
One year after the curse's reversal, Hook restores Emma's memories with a potion and the two return to Storybrooke with Henry to save her family by breaking the new curse from Zelena, the Wicked Witch of the West. She later finds Neal trapped within Mr. Gold's body, thus causing him to lose his mind. Neal asks for Emma to free his father by killing himself to defeat Zelena; she reluctantly agrees. Regina later helps Emma to strengthen her magical powers, though they are later removed when Zelena curses Hook. After Emma and Hook are dragged into Zelena's time portal, she accepts Storybrooke as her home, regaining her magic to re-open the portal to the present, and beginning a relationship with Hook.
|N/A||Henry Mills||Jared S. Gilmore||1, 2, 3||N/A||63||Alive|

An older Henry receives his cherished book of fairy tales from his teacher Mary Margaret Blanchard (Snow White), discovering that the residents of Storybrooke are characters from it after noticing he is the only one in town who ages. His realization of Regina's true identity strains his relationship with her, and she sends him to regular therapy sessions with Dr. Archie Hopper to end his belief in the curse. Hoping to break the curse, Henry finds his biological mother Emma Swan in Boston and brings her to Storybrooke. He eventually convinces her of the truth by consuming a sleeping curse intended for her by Regina, ultimating in him dying. Following the death of Regina's mother Cora, and her vowing to avenge Mary Margaret, Henry seeks to remove magic from Storybrooke. When Emma and Regina stop the trigger introduced by Greg Mendell and Tamara from destroying the town, he is kidnapped by the pair and taken to Neverland, where it is revealed that Peter Pan (Henry's great-grandfather) wants possession of him as he owns "the heart of the truest believer". Pan eventually persuades Henry to give him his heart, putting it into Pan's body, telling him it will save magic. Regina reclaims the heart and resurrects Henry. However, Pan inhabits Henry's body in Storybrooke, until Gold corrects the bodies. However, Pan enacts the original curse again, forcing Emma and Henry to leave Storybrooke forever. Regina erases the events following the curse's enactment, and gives the pair new happy memories. Henry's past is altered and instead of being put up for adoption, he lives with Emma in New York City. |Rumplestiltskin||Mr. Gold||Robert Carlyle (adult)
Wyatt Oleff (child)
|1, 2, 3||N/A||57||Alive|
sorcerer who delights in making deals with desperate people, warning them "magic always comes with a price". He is also the Dark One, the Beast and the "crocodile" that cost Captain Hook his left hand. He is the true love of Belle, father to Baelfire/Neal Cassidy, and grandfather to his and Emma Swan's biological son Henry.
As a boy, Rumplestiltskin's father Malcolm abandons him with two spinners, from whom he receives a magic bean to create a portal to another world. His father uses the bean to take them to Neverland, though he forces Rumplestiltskin to be returned to the Enchanted Forest, realizing his son is preventing him from becoming a boy again. Rumplestiltskin witnesses as his father transforms into Peter Pan. In his adult years, Rumplestiltskin is a poor spinner who deserts from the Ogre Wars, to the disgust of his wife Milah, who leaves him for the pirate Killian Jones. Becoming the Dark One, Rumplestiltskin kills Milah and cuts off Jones' hand, thereby becoming Captain Hook. He prevents his son Baelfire being forced to join the wars, though Bae wants rid of his powers, creating a portal to transport them to a world without magic. Rumplestiltskin fears losing his powers, leaving Bae to cross over alone. He vows that he will create a curse to find his son, becoming the most powerful being in the Enchanted Forest and entering a power struggle with his former student, the Evil Queen Regina. He also trains Zelena, the Wicked Witch of the West, until she becomes jealous of his continued teaching of her half-sister Regina, who he chooses to cast his curse. As part of a deal to save her town, Belle becomes the caretaker of his estate and the two form a romantic bond until Rumplestiltskin forces her to leave forever after mistaking that she is working for Regina, who later claims that Belle committed suicide. Soon after, he is made powerless and placed into a jail. Regina enacts his curse, requesting she give him a place of comfort and respect in the "new world" they will be sent to.
In Storybrooke, he is Mr. Gold, the owner of a pawn shop and the town's wealthiest resident. He remembers his true identity, and owns most of the town. He finds Regina a baby whom she names Henry, only for her to later learn that he is Emma Swan's biological son. He helps Emma become Sheriff, and offers his legal services to Mary Margaret Blanchard (Snow White) for the false murder of Kathryn Nolan (Princess Abigail) which he set up. Emma eventually breaks the curse after Henry dies and she awakens him with true love's kiss. Gold is reunited with Belle, and brings magic back to Storybrooke, though he is later enraged learning that leaving the town will remove residents' magical memories, as he had planned to search for Baelfire. Gold eventually creates a potion to leave and tracks Bae to Manhattan, only to learn he is Neal Cassidy, Henry's father. Gold begins to die after he is poisoned by Hook and the group return to Storybrooke where Mary Margaret heals him by reluctantly poisoning Cora's heart. When Henry is kidnapped to Neverland, Gold travels with Emma, her parents, Regina and Hook to rescue him. Upon arrival, he accepts he will die saving Henry, but has to complete the task to fulfill the prophecy of the boy being his undoing. Pan ultimately traps Gold inside Pandora's Box, though he is freed by Neal, before placing his father in the box. However, Pan inhabits Henry's body, before Gold successfully swaps the souls back in Storybrooke. Before Pan attempts to kill his loved ones, Gold uses his dagger to sacrifice both himself and his father. However, Pan's curse is enacted and takes the majority of the inhabitants back to the Enchanted Forest.
Neal and Belle travel to Rumplestiltskin's castle and are located to the Dark One's Vault where Neal resurrects Rumplestiltskin but kills himself. Before he dies, Rumplestiltskin merges his body with his own. When Snow White and Prince Charming enact a curse to stop Zelena, Mr. Gold is returned to Storybrooke under Zelena's control. Emma later finds him, only to find that Neal is trapped within him, thus causing Mr. Gold to lose his mind. Neal asks for Emma to free Gold to defeat the Wicked Witch though he will die; she reluctantly agrees. After the defeat of Zelena, Mr. Gold proposes to Belle, also giving her his dagger. Unknown to her, it is a fake, and Gold uses the original to kill Zelena. However, a form of Zelena is used as the final ingredient in enacting her time-travel spell. He later marries Belle with her father's blessing.
|Belle||Lacey||Emilie de Ravin||2, 3||1||35||Alive|
When her father's realm is threatened by the Ogre Wars, Rumplestiltskin offers to protect it in exchange for Belle becoming the caretaker of his estate. Belle accepts the deal and the pair form a bond until she learns from the Evil Queen Regina that true love's kiss will break any curse and kisses him. He mistakenly believes that Belle is working for Regina and forces her to leave forever. Belle later joins an expedition to hunt a monster called the Yaoguai that terrorizes a distant kingdom. Using her knowledge of books, she teams with Mulan to defeat the beast that is a cursed Prince Phillip. She then intends to return to Rumplestiltskin, though the Evil Queen captures her instead and claims to him that Belle committed suicide.
In Storybrooke, Belle is kept beneath the town's hospital for 28 years. She is later released by Jefferson and finds Mr. Gold (Rumplestiltskin), professing her love for him when the curse is broken and standing beside him as he brings magic to Storybrooke. When Gold finds a way to cross the barrier of Storybrooke without losing his memories, Belle is shot by Captain Hook before they part, causing her to fall across the border and lose her memory again. Belle later "remembers" her cursed self as a scantily-clad barfly named Lacey, who encourages the darker urges in Gold. Gold later finds a potion that regains her original identity. As Mr. Gold, along with Emma Swan, Mary Margaret, David, Regina, and Captain Hook travel to retrieve a kidnapped Henry from Neverland, he gives Belle a protection spell to cast around Storybrooke. He encounters Belle frequently in Neverland as an illusion to act as a crutch to his cowardliness - though she is later revealed as Peter Pan's shadow in disguise. The two are reunited when the group successfully return to Storybrooke after retrieving Henry, though it is short lived as Gold seemingly sacrifices himself. However, Pan's curse remained and Belle, along with the other Storybrooke inhabitants are sent back to their original worlds when Regina undoes the original curse that created the town. In the Enchanted Forest, Belle and Neal travel to Rumplestiltskin's castle and are directed to the Dark One's Vault by a candle-man named Lumiere. To the disapproval of Belle, Neal unlocks the vault, resurrecting Rumplestiltskin but killing himself. Belle is returned to Storybrooke when Snow and Charming enact a new curse to stop Zelena from taking their baby. Upon his freedom, Mr. Gold proposes to Belle after trusting her with his dagger (unknown to her, it is a replica). Belle and Gold are shortly married with her father's blessing.

Zelena later curses Hook, meaning that when he kisses Emma, she will lose her powers. She is forced to give up her powers when Zelena attempts to drown him, causing Emma to revive him. After Hook and Emma are dragged into Zelena's time portal, Emma regains her magic to re-open the portal to the present. |Owen Flynn is a young boy who, with his father Kurt, camped out in the woods of Maine in 1983, the night the Dark Curse took everyone to the new world that becomes Storybrooke. Owen enjoys Regina's company, however, this only leads her trying to keep him and his father in Storybrooke. Owen escapes after Kurt is falsely arrested by Regina, vowing to return to his father.
Almost three decades later, a man crashes his car into Storybrooke; his name is later revealed as Greg Mendell, an alias of Owen. His name is a reference to the geneticist scientist, Gregor Mendel. When Greg is brought to the hospital, the residents debate whether to save his life and risk the truth of Storybrooke being revealed to the outside world. He is ultimately saved, and remains in the town to investigate the strange happenings of Storybrooke. Regina eventually learns of Greg's identity, telling him to leave the town. Greg ignores her, as it is revealed he is in alliance with Neal Cassidy's fiancée, Tamara. The two kidnap Regina and torture her to reveal his father's whereabouts. She eventually tells him that she killed his father. A hurt Greg plans to kill Regina but escapes when David Nolan (Prince Charming) tracks him down. When confronted by the Lost Boys, the pair refuse to hand Henry to them, causing the Shadow to rip out Greg's shadow from his body, killing him instantly.
|Tamara is a woman determined to remove magic from the world seeing it as unholy. Her quest begins in Hong Kong, where she visits the Dragon, a self-proclaimed healer, claiming to have cancer. There, she meets August Booth (Pinocchio), who also seeks the healer as he is gradually turning to wood. He steals $10,000 from her as a settlement to the Dragon's cure, though Tamara finds him and takes the potion back. She later returns to the Dragon and kills him.
Tamara later follows August to New York City, where she begins a scheme to learn about Storybrooke. She befriends Neal Cassidy (Baelfire), eventually becoming an engaged couple. Tamara is invited to Storybrooke by Neal who informs her of his magical background. She finds a completely wooden August, offering to give him a cure if he leaves Storybrooke forever. However, when August learns that Tamara killed the Dragon, he warns Emma Swan about Tamara's deception, only to be mortally wounded by her. He is later resurrected to his child self, though unable to identify who attacked him. Tamara is later shown to be in a romantic alliance with Greg Mendell, a stranger who crashed into the town and who also wants to destroy magic. Tamara and Greg activate the trigger but are foiled, instead kidnapping Henry and travelling through a portal to Neverland. However, they soon realize that they are being fooled. When confronted by the Lost Boys (the real "Home Office") the pair refuse to hand Henry to them. After the Shadow rips out Greg's shadow, Tamara is hit by an arrow. |Malcolm/Peter Pan/Pied Piper||N/A||Robbie Kay (Peter Pan/Pied Piper)
Stephen Lord (Malcolm)
|Malcolm is the father of Rumplestiltskin, grandfather of Baelfire/Neal Cassidy, and great-grandfather of Henry Mills. Malcolm originally leaves his son in the care of two spinners, who give Rumplestiltskin a magical bean to create a portal, telling him that his father will always be a burden. Using the magic bean, Malcolm and Rumplestiltskin travel to Neverland, a place which Malcolm envisions in his dreams. Upon arrival, Malcolm discovers he cannot fly like in his dreams, and searches for pixie dust. The Shadow states to him that he cannot fly as he does not belong on the island. Realizing that he cannot be a child as he is a father, Malcolm forces Rumplestiltskin to be taken home by the Shadow. Malcolm transforms into his younger self, adopting the name of Peter Pan from a doll that he gave Rumplestiltskin. The Shadow then informs Pan that his youth is limited, and he will die when the hourglass of Skull Rock is complete. Some time later, Pan visits Hamelin in the Enchanted Forest posing as the Pied Piper to expand what would later become the Lost Boys. One boy he lured was Baelfire, causing Rumplestiltskin to again encounter Pan while retrieving his son.
He later appears as a fugitive boy pretending to escape from the Lost Boys. He "befriends" Henry who is also attempting to escape upon arriving in Neverland, following his kidnap from Storybrooke. He later reveals his true identity and tells Henry he possesses "the heart of the truest believer", which he now owns. He plays games with those looking for him, also using John and Michael Darling to prevent Ariel and Belle from helping Mr. Gold, in exchange for their sister Wendy's life, who had been lured back to Neverland. Pan falsely claims to Henry that magic is dying in Neverland, and needs Henry's power. He then persuades Henry to give Pan his heart, leading Henry to temporarily die. After Pan traps Gold inside Pandora's Box, Regina successfully reclaims Henry's heart and revives him. However, Pan later attempts to rip Henry's shadow from him as he sails home with the rest of the residents, only to be stopped by a freed Gold, who places Pan in Pandora's Box as revenge. However, before Pan is dragged away, he switches bodies with Henry, unbeknownst to the others. Once in Storybrooke, Pan orders the Shadow to kill Mother Superior after reading Henry's book. He then steals the original curse from Regina that created Storybrooke, planning to enact it to turn the town into "The New Neverland." His plot is successful, though before it takes place, Gold kills both Pan (who reverts to Malcolm) and himself with the Dark One's dagger.

She successfully obtains different forms of the items, though Regina uses her newly discovered light magic to defeat Zelena, but spares her life, deciding to give her a second chance.
