Founded in 1998, Netasq is an information security company based in France. It has designed and markets Unified Threat Management solutions (hardware appliances based on a derivative of FreeBSD) which combine network and application firewall with embedded anti-virus, anti-spam, VPN and content filtering functionality with an integrated real-time intrusion prevention technology: the ASQ (Active Security Qualification).
Core Technology
The core technology of Netasq firewall is called "ASQ", which stands for Active Security Qualification. Netasq claims that in the early 2000's, they were the first firewall vendor that provides true real-time inline Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) firewall that does not rely on attack signature or pattern database. This is rarely seen with other products during that time which mostly rely on subscribed attack patterns or signature database, much like conventional anti-virus software does. Furthermore, the way ASQ is designed, even though when IPS engine is enabled (which is always enabled by default), the performance will not drop unlike conventional IPS firewalls which will typically loses around 70% of their performance when IPS mechanisms are enabled[citation needed]. This claims has been proven throughout the years by third party testing and real life experience[citation needed].
Market Positioning
Today, Netasq can be found competing aggressively in the Gartner Magic Quadrant. They offer European-class technology with high security without compromising on performance at a difficult-to-beat price.
