The Pragati Maidan hosts the World Book Fair every two years.

The New Delhi World Book Fair, held in Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, is India's oldest book fair. Started in 1972, this biennial event takes place in early February, and is organized by the National Book Trust, India (NBT). It has a more economic side, supporting also the growing markets of neighboring countries.

India is the third biggest market for English publications. The country is believed to have 12,000 publishers that publish around 90,000 titles a year in more than 18 languages. India's main publishing is in the Indian languages. 2006: 1.294 exposers on 38.000 square metres (2004: 1.205 / 32.546); 1 million visitors (30% plus). 18 countries: USA, Bangladesh, France, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Canada, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nepal, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Germany. Where India, as the first country appearing a second time (first was 1886) is the guest 2006 of the Frankfurt Book Fair, because of the vivid growing market (infos in preparation of guest-stage / German book fair-newsletter).

The 20th New Delhi World Book Fair 2012 will be held in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from 25th February 2012 to 4th March 2012 organised by National Book Trust,India NBT with numerous activities organised by NBT, participants for book launches, including support by the Publishers' and Booksellers' fraternity such as Delhi State Booksellers' and Publishers' Association and Sagi Publication initiative to launch Pink Ribbon Book Tag to contribute Rupee 1 for every book sold at the Book Fair with the support of Indian Cancer Society for a humanitarian cause.The theme of Book Fair is Indian Cinema.
