"New York, New York" is a single from West Coast hip hop duo Tha Dogg Pound's first album, Dogg Food. It features Kurupt rapping the verses, with Daz Dillinger with a few quick verses in the video and Snoop Dogg in the chorus. It was thought to be a diss song thrown at the East Coast hip hop scene during the rivalry between the East and West. In the video Tha Dogg Pound members are rapping around the Skyscrapers in New York. DJ Pooh produced the song and it never charted. In response to this song East Coast duos Capone-N-Noreaga and Mobb Deep collaborated with Tragedy Khadafi to release a response song named "L.A L.A" dissing Dogg Pound members. This song also uses a sample of Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five's song with the same title.

[edit] Music video

The 3 day music video shoot was produced out of Truth and Soul's Tribeca studio. Day 1 was scheduled and shot at night in busy Times Square, NYC. Low-Riders were trucked in to drive down 7th Avenue while crowds circled a large camera crane on the center divider. Day 2 scheduled to shoot Red Hook, Brooklyn in the morning and a Large Tribeca party venue in afternoon. Day two was cancelled after a drive-by assassination attempt on Snoop Dogg and his entourage failed. The Fruits of Islam provided general security, shielded Snoop Dogg with their own bodies until Snoop could be placed safely in a waiting vehicle and whisked away to avoid a repeated attempt. Day 3 was scheduled and shot at Broadway Stages, but without Snoop Dogg to perform his scenes the shooting schedule had to be greatly modified. The remainder of the 3rd day was used to shoot green screen effects later to be used in the morphing of Doberman Pinschers and the NYC skyline.
