Most of the hotels are represented by the Hotel Association of New York City trade organization. The organization in 2009 has a membership of 245 hotels representing 69,587 rooms and 32,000 employees.[1] Among the hotels represented by the group are private ones such as the Yale Club.
The official city tourist website nycgo.com operated by NYC & Company lists 217 hotels including:
- Brooklyn (7)
- Manhattan (191)
- Queens (17)

More than half the hotels (114) are in Midtown Manhattan with 75 on the west side (most in the Times Square area) and 39 on the Midtown East Side.[2] The city tourist list does not include single room occupancy hotels.
