Niklas is an enterprise integration platform with a strong focus on performance, scalability and supportability. It supports transformation and transport between various data types and sources and can process free format files as well as standardised EDI and XML. In order to transport these files, Niklas supports FTP/SFTP, HTTP/HTTPS, POP3, SMTP, IMAP, SOAP, MQ and JMS. For data transformation, Niklas can utilise every type of mapping software as long as it produces either Java or XSLT output. For example with tools like Smooks or MapForce.

Niklas supports both the H2 as well as JDBC-compatible database engines. In future versions, the H2 engine will be phased out completely in favour of JDBC database compatibility. Version 1.2, released November 19, 2012, features enhanced memory management, performance improvements, dynamic agreements, enhanced logging and secure web services.
