Nods is a municipality in the Jura bernois administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland, located in the French-speaking Bernese Jura (Jura Bernois).

Nods has an area, as of 2009, of 26.63 square kilometers (10.28 sq mi). Of this area, 11.99 km2 (4.63 sq mi) or 45.0% is used for agricultural purposes, while 13.75 km2 (5.31 sq mi) or 51.6% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.8 km2 (0.31 sq mi) or 3.0% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.01 km2 (2.5 acres) or 0.0% is either rivers or lakes and 0.08 km2 (20 acres) or 0.3% is unproductive land.[4]

Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 1.4% and transportation infrastructure made up 1.4%. Out of the forested land, 47.4% of the total land area is heavily forested and 4.3% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 15.9% is used for growing crops and 11.6% is pastures and 17.4% is used for alpine pastures. All the water in the municipality is in rivers and streams.[4]

Nods has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 746.[1] As of 2007, 6.5% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 11.8%. Most of the population (as of 2000) speaks French (85.0%), with German being second most common (12.3%) and Portuguese being third (1.0%).

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 34.2% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the FDP (19.6%), the SPS (19.2%) and the Green Party (13.9%).

The age distribution of the population (as of 2000) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 27.4% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 58.5% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 14.1%. In Nods about 73.3% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).

Nods has an unemployment rate of 1.27%. As of 2005, there were 69 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 29 businesses involved in this sector. 34 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 8 businesses in this sector. 52 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 17 businesses in this sector.[5] The historical population is given in the following table:[3]
