The Norton Removal Tool (SymNRT), developed by Symantec Corporation, aids in the removal of Norton software when the conventional means of uninstallation, the Add/Remove programs menu, fails.

SymNRT's main purpose is to aid in the removal of Norton products; the built-in uninstaller may fail to remove all files and registry entries, conflicting with future installations.[1]

  • ACT! and WinFax users are recommended to back up their databases before running SymNRT.
  • Once SymNRT has started the removal process, it cannot be stopped.
  • It is recommended to close all running programs prior to running SymNRT.
