The Notable Names Database (NNDB), produced by Soylent Communications, is an online database of biographical details of over 36,000 people of note. NNDB describes itself as an "intelligence aggregator" of those NNDB determines to be noteworthy, but mostly to identify connections between people.[1]

[edit] Entries

Each person has an executive summary giving a brief description of NNDB's opinion of their notability.[2] Additionally, entries may contain vital statistics, job history, religion, race or ethnicity, sexual orientation, organisations, illnesses, drug use and biography. In the case of authors, actors and film directors, the article lists the person's work in chronological order. NNDB also has articles on films and music groups. Additionally, the NNDB includes an interesting feature allowing the user to peruse compiled lists, from school attendees to people who have been bitten by an animal.[3][4] Readers may suggest additions, corrections, URLs, emails or images by a form on the website which are later vetted by an NNDB staff member.[citation needed] A former feature was the "Level of Fame" assigned by NNDB from "Niche" to "Icon."[5]

[edit] NNDB Mapper

The NNDB Mapper, a visual tool for exploring connections between people, is also available, though it does require Flash 7 and JavaScript to run correctly.[6] The interface allows the user to map how various individuals and institutions are connected.
