Oerlikon Balzers was created in 1946 in Liechtenstein [1]. The firm has grown very quickly, and now owns 5 corporate sites and 85 coating centers (as of 2011) all over the world, like (Germany, USA, Italy, France, UK, Brazil, Japan, India and Liechtenstein). 16,155 people now work for Oerlikon Balzers as of (2011). The turnover is equivalent to 4.599 billion € with a net income of 113 Millions €. Oerlikon Balzers is one of only a few companies that make Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) equpiment.

Oerlikon Balzers continues to use Liechtenstein as its headquarters, and is currently located in Balzers near the heliport, where over 1000 people are employed. With the support of Prince Franz Josef II, Oerlikon Balzers was founded in Liechtenstein. The company stated that Liechtenstein offered low taxes and at the time low wages (currently Liechtenstein has the second highest income in the world after Monaco).
