[edit] History

The channel was launched as replacement for Channel 33, in which its broadcast suffered quality programming and considerable viewership, among other things. The channel was shut down and revamped into its current state on December 24, 2004, bearing a new name with brand new programming centered on westernized Arabs who enjoy western-styled entertainment.[1]

[edit] Programming

Generally, the channel broadcasts syndicated programming from the United States and occasionally from the United Kingdom and Australia. In addition, Dubai One TV currently offers three movies per night, and has screened to date more than 300 films. The channel also repeats programming it has broadcast during the week on Friday, known as "Catch Up Friday". Dubai One has a partnership with Warner Bros. and Disney which gives them a large access of movies.[1] Recently, Dubai One has started showing Bollywood films once a month on Thursday night at 11 pm U.A.E. time. The offered programs suffer from a certain amount of censorship that tries to control scenes involving a certain level of sexuality and occasionally political, and this is done to retain the consistency of the U.A.E's moral and religious Islamic culture.[citation needed]

Dubai One also aired the most watched TV series in the world The Bold and the Beautiful only 9 months behind the United States (CBS Network). However due to a "change in policy" the show was taken off air.[2]

[edit] In-house production

To improve its quality of content, the channel has produced three, local talk shows: Her Say, Out and About, and Bonds for Life which deal with Dubai and its problems.[3] On February 1, 2007, Dubai One began broadcasting a half an hour daily news program called Emirates News, which covers all the events happening in the U.A.E..[4]
