Open Source for the Enterprise: Managing Risks, Reaping Rewards is a book coauthored by Dan Woods, former CTO of TheStreet.com and a consultant and author of several books about IT and Gautam Guliani, Director of Software Architecture at Kaplan Test Prep & Admissions[1] and published by O'Reilly Media. The book discusses the risks and benefits of utilizing open source software in a business environment. The book discusses the skills and organizational necessities involved in successful utilization of open source software.
The authors present models to help an IT department evaluate and implement open source software in the business environment. These models include the Open Source Maturity Model, The Open Source Skills and Risk Tolerance model, and The Software Cost and Risk model. Annexes included also provides reviews of identified mature open source software packages.
