P. F. Chang's China Bistro, Inc. (NASDAQ: PFCB) is a Chinese restaurant chain with headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona.[1]
The chain was founded in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1993 by Paul Fleming and Philip Chiang.[2] The restaurants serve American Chinese cuisine from a menu originally conceived and planned by chef Philip Chiang. "P. F. Chang's" is the namesake of Paul Fleming (P. F.) and Philip Chiang (whose surname is simplified to Chang.)[citation needed]
As of 2010[update], P. F. Chang's operates more than 200 restaurants[3] in the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Kuwait City, and Dubai in United Arab Emirates. The company – which has its corporate headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia – is the parent company of Pei Wei Asian Diner, a casual, pan-Asian restaurant chain in the United States.
In 2010, P.F. Chang's Home Menu was introduced, which was sold frozen. It is sold under license to Unilever.
P. F. Chang's is one of a few restaurant chains that offers a dedicated menu to diners that must follow a strict gluten-free diet. The company has been recognized for this by the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America.[4]
The company, along with MBH Architects, has received several architectural awards for restaurant designs.[citation needed] These include its locations in Seattle, Washington; Las Vegas, Nevada; Fort Worth and San Antonio, Texas; and Walnut Creek, Rancho Mirage, San Jose, Palo Alto and Long Beach, California.
The restaurant chain is frequently referenced in the animated sitcom South Park. Laura Cherry, a spokesperson for the chain, has spoken positively of the series, and stated that creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone frequently dine there.[5] It has also been frequently mentioned by Howard Wolowitz, a fictional character in the sitcom The Big Bang Theory.
