[edit] Programs

PPTV programs are targeted at Chinese audiences. Known for its live streaming capabilities, PPTV covers over 120 TV Chinese stations, 300 live channels and 20,000 VOD (video-on-demand) channels throughout China. Categories include live TV shows, movies, dramas, etc. Also available are some specialty channels covering sports, news, game shows, entertainment programs and more. Most programs are available in Mandarin, Cantonese or Korean. There are also an increasing number of programs in English, such as Hollywood blockbuster movies and popular American or Korean TV shows. All of these English-speaking shows are hard-coded with Chinese subtitles.

PPTV has recently extended its programming to cover live streaming of many events, including Hunan Super Girl show, China Talent show, and Auto shows. They have also started to produce their own live shows covering as finance, education, entertainment and many other topics. PPTV has also invested in producing online drama (made especially for an internet audience) in cooperation with other media groups and studios.

[edit] Technology

PPLive has developed a new generation of video streaming and distribution platform, known as PPCloud. Its platform has migrated to a hybrid CDN-P2P cloud technology, called PPCloud. The platform is considered as scalable and cost-effective as it combines cloud and p2p computing algorithms. Its platform has been applied to online TV, Internet TV, and Smart TV. The company claimed that they have filed nearly 50 patents in this area.

[edit] User Base

The company claimed that they have more than 200 million user installations and 105 million active monthly user base (as of Dec 2010). The most impressive number is that their audience base is sticky - average viewing time per day per person is about 2 hours and 30 min, which is perhaps the highest number among Chinese Internet web properties.
